JDI Soccer

For the second game in succession the ravens were a player down at kick off due unforeseen circumstances, but were again boosted by the appearance of experienced Barrie Manchip in midfield.

The snakes made early inroads and tested Mark Kennard in goal on numerous occasions in the opening 10 minutes but to no avail. It was in fact the Ravens who made the breakthrough with good work on the break which led to Dan Richards smashing home the opening goal of the evening.

That lead was short lived and the Snakes hit back within a matter of minutes capitalizing on some poor defending to equalize through Shane Caruthers. The game was to-ing and fro-ing in the early exchanges but it was the Snakes who took the lead with good work from the debutant Luke Maxmate, finishing off a nice move.

Again the snakes replied, Ben Rolison robbing Caruthers on the halfway line, playing a one two with Michael Quinn before clinically finishing in the bottom corner.

With the Ravens working tirelessly trying to make up for the player disadvantage they were yet again caught on the break this time it was the ever consistent Carl Topliss finishing from close range.

Further goals from Ian Leighfield and Luke Maxmate saw the Snakes really take advantage of the extra man as the Ravens started to tire.

The Score at half time was 7-4 to the Snakes. With the Ravens visibly exhausted from the first half’s exploits the sprightly Snakes were clearly confident of taking all three points.

The second half started as the first half ended with the Snakes taking the game by the scruff of the neck and adding more goals through Ben Blabber, Carl Topliss and Luke Maxmate. Barry Manchip added one in reply but it was never going to be enough to encourage a Raven revival. Despite being a man down Michael Quinn worked tirelessly up front holding up the ball superbly all night, really standing out along with the tireless Mark Kennard who covered every blade of artificial grass!

The Snakes added a few more strikes before the evening was out and they took the game 14-7, really capitalising on the extra man to run out clear winners.

Credit must go to the Ravens who worked their socks off to make it a contest but in the end it wasn’t quite enough to take victory away from the deserved Snakes.

Final Score
Snakes 14-7 Ravens

Man of Match
Michael Quinn (Ravens)

www.HappyBirthday.com

On August 6, 1991- (20 Years Ago) Tim Berners-Lee created a summary of a project for organizing information on a computer network using a “web”
of hyperlinks: Calling it the “WorldWideWeb,” or W3. At the same time, the W3 made its debut as a publicly available service on the Internet. It may be a little late
(3 days) but from the team here at Intellichat and ALL of our clients around the Globe would like to give a big thank you to Mr Tim Berners-Lee!

Thanks to him, the world has revolutionized in a remarkably short period of time, going from clunky old modems to smartphones, web-based technology has come a long, long way.

So the question is, whats the web going to be like in the next 20 years???

Technology is the new smoking

We’ve all been there; You’re at an outing or a dinner table with friends but itching to check your email or Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Google+ or Yammer or whatever digital hit of serotonin you prefer. Have you ever “gone to the bathroom” in order to check email or come up with a socially appropriate excuse to pull out your smartphone just so you can check your @ replies on Twitter?
Remember when the critical mass of smokers used to leave the table or meeting in groups to go indulge their habit? I straight up open my laptop at bars and parties, and then feel more guilty about that than drinking.
A new British study released today backs up what we otherwise know intuitively, that Internet usage is increasingly becoming an addiction. Out of 1000 people surveyed after being cut off from the Internet for 24 hours, 53% reported feeling “upset” about being deprived of online access and 40% said that they felt lonely after not being able to connect to the Internet. Participants described the digital detox akin to quitting drinking or smoking and one even said it was like having his hand chopped off (!).
This British survey comes after a University of Maryland study in April that came to pretty much the same conclusion — With one student saying that she was “itching like a crackhead” after abstaining from any form of media for 24 hours. Geez.
Add this insight to the yet un-proven concerns that smartphone usage leads to Cancer and the smoking analogy becomes more and more apt (see image left). But for the moment Googling the name of a movie you can’t remember is hands down a lot healthier than smoking an actual cigarette, at least physically. For the moment.

The familiar gray strip at the top of every Google page will turn black, and come with several new options for accessing your Google+ profile, viewing notifications and instantly sharing content. Upsetting the Apple Cart!

Here at intellichat we like our gadgets! 90% of us are iphone owners and don’t know how we lived without them!! Well theres a new kid on the block and it looks as if NOKIA have finally got their act together! Introducing the N9, it’s an entirely buttonless handset (with the exception of a volume rocker and camera shutter button), and is basically just a 3.9-inch sheet of 854 x 480 AMOLED screen. On the back, that polycarbonate shell is colored all the way through so you don’t have to worry so much about those ugly scratches.

Nokia’s new MeeGo-powered handset runs an OMAP 3630 1GHz processor and comes with 16GB or 64GB of internal memory and 1GB of RAM. The phone’s 8-megapixel autofocus camera is capable of wide-angle shots, and aperture of F2.2 for high-quality low-light performance, along with the ability to capture video in 720p. The N9 also comes with a quad-band GSM radio, a penta-band WCDMA radio, along with NFC, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.1.

So look out Steve Jobs, NOKIA wants its share of the market back!

$100 for MySpace Anyone?

Well, well, well, who would have thought that the once $12bn valued MySpace would be selling out for $100m (at an ambitious push)? In 2007 the company was valued at $12bn during talks with Yahoo about a merger, the company value dropped considerably in the space of a year when the company was acquired by News Corporation in 2008 for $580m, thanks Facebook.

MySpace still boasts 40million active users worldwide and has 3million regular users in the UK alone. This large number of users is not enough to make the website profitable or sustainable and reported first quarter (2011) losses are over $100m. Interested parties include: Criterion Capital Partners (Bebo and myYearbook) and an investor group led by the CEO of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick. The sale is expected to complete before the end of June 2011, before the end of it’s financial year.

Finally Facebook

This is the news Facebook fans on iPad have been waiting for. No more crappy iPhone app for the iPad and no more 2x zoom.
Yippee!! Rejoice my fellow Ipadders, our prayers have been answered. Facebook are finally putting one together and rumour has it the iPad app has been in testing for some time in the Facebook offices.

Since the release of the iPad, third party Facebook apps have been plastered all over the app store, some doing a very good job of imitating the Facebook brand. Facebook needed to get on top of this situation for the safety of the brand on the iPad. Techcrunch report that the app will be available in the ‘coming weeks’ but with the focus of Facebook being on the new photos mobile app and the now infamous “Spartan Project” (their targeting of mobile safari with the mobile platform and a bunch of HTML5) do they have time to do a big silicon valley release?
Keep checking the app store, i know i will.
